Chandigarh, September 13:- Haryana Energy, Transport and Labour Minister Shri Anil Vij said that continuous efforts are being made to transform the face of Ambala Cantonment. For faster drainage of water, a storm water drainage pipeline was earlier laid in the old Sadar area of Ambala Cantonment at a cost of Rs. 65 crore, resulting in no waterlogging during the rains and also eliminating flies and mosquitoes. Now, our aim is to make the entire Ambala Cantonment free of open drains. We want the entire city to be free of drains. Therefore, work to lay a storm water drainage pipeline at an estimated cost of about Rs. 58 crore is being started today from Ekta Vihar, which will greatly benefit the people.
Shri Vij said that after completion of this work, this area will become free of open drains. He said that the storm water pipeline is currently being laid from Jagadhri Road Govind Nagar towards the Saharanpur railway line up to the Tangri embankment. Energy Minister Anil Vij directed Public Health Department XEN Harbhajan Singh to constitute three-four teams so that the work of laying storm water drainage pipelines can be undertaken in Lalkurti area, BC Bazaar, along Outer Large Road, as well as in the Ekta Vihar area. He also said that in the Ekta Vihar area, where the foundation stone of the work has been laid, the drains should be levelled properly before carrying out the work, so that rainwater can be drained efficiently during the rainy days. The Energy Minister said that work to lay a storm water drainage pipeline from Jagadhri Road towards the Defence Colony area would be undertaken, which would make the entire Ambala free of open drains. Shri Vij said that his constant endeavour has been to make Ambala Cantonment beautiful and developed, and with the strength and blessings given by the people, he has undertaken numerous development works in Ambala Cantonment.
Energy Minister Anil Vij Appeals to People for Cooperation
Energy Minister Anil Vij said that during the laying of the storm water pipeline, the platforms in front of people's houses would have to be demolished so that the water line could be laid. For this, he appealed to the people to extend full cooperation. He said that earlier, when the storm water pipeline was laid in the Sadar area, people extended full cooperation, due to which water drainage is better there today.
Congress Prioritised Credit-Taking Over City Development: Minister Anil Vij
Energy Minister Anil Vij said that Congress ruled for 60-70 years, and its leaders served as Prime Ministers and Chief Ministers, but instead of prioritising the development of the city, they only tried to take credit. He said that we built an 8-kilometre-long embankment on the Tangri River and connected it with the GT Road. Underpasses and overbridges have been constructed in place of four railway crossings, with only the overbridge at Machhonda remaining to be built. He said the Tangri River existed even before our birth, but Congress governments did not make the embankment along the river permanent. However, as soon as the BJP government came to power, we got this work done and provided protection from water to lakhs of people. Now, whenever one or two feet of water accumulates somewhere due to rain, the opposition starts a photo shoot. Taking a jibe, he said that during Congress rule, boats used to operate in Ambala during the rains. The Cabinet Minister, taking a swipe at the opposition, said that Tangri was excavated to prevent floods, while the capacity of pumps at Mahesh Nagar Pump House was increased and new pumps were installed.
Tender Allocated at a Cost of Rs. 22 Crore to Complete Remaining Portion of Mahesh Nagar Drain: Anil Vij
Energy Minister Anil Vij said that Rs. 22 crore has been approved to make the remaining portion of Mahesh Nagar drain permanent and the work has also been allocated under it. Work will begin here as soon as the rainy season ends. The design for the drain construction has been prepared by IIT Roorkee, which will enable better cleaning of the drain through machines in the future.
Central Drain Closed, Transforming the Lives of Residents in the Area: Anil Vij
Energy Minister Anil Vij said that we closed the central drain in the Sadar area, which is benefiting the people there today and has changed their lives. Earlier, people used to identify their house addresses by saying that they lived along the drain, but now, with the underground pipeline laid, people sit comfortably upstairs on cots and chairs.
Several Projects Undertaken for the Development of Ambala Cantonment: Anil Vij
Energy Minister Anil Vij said that earlier too, we had brought and completed major projects in the city, which are visible today. If the projects are listed from one end, they include canal water, Government College Ambala Cantonment, Bus Stand Ambala Cantonment, grain market, Shaheedi Samarak, Science Museum, SDM Office Ambala Cantonment, Civil Hospital Ambala Cantonment, Atal Cancer Care Centre, FIFA-approved football stadium, all-weather swimming pool, gymnastics hall, badminton hall, Bank Square, Municipal Council Office, vyayamshalas, Subhash Park, NCDC Centre, besides numerous other projects that have been undertaken.
