Chandigarh:- The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court has today ordered the registration of an FIR against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the case of dual citizenship. The court has said that the case should be registered and its investigation should be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation. This decision has come on a petition filed by Karnataka BJP worker S. Vignesh Shishir.
The petitioner has claimed that Rahul Gandhi has British citizenship, which is illegal as per Indian law. Earlier on 28 January 2026, the MP-MLA Court had dismissed this petition saying that no new or concrete evidence was presented, but now the High Court has taken a tough stand in this matter.
During the hearing, Justice Subhash Vidyarthi had directed the Foreign Department of the Ministry of Home Affairs to submit all the necessary documents related to the case. The Ministry has presented the 'top secret' files related to this case in the court. The petitioner claims that he has evidence to show that Rahul Gandhi has been registered as a voter in the United Kingdom and has participated in the elections there.
In this case, Rahul Gandhi has been sought to be prosecuted under serious sections of the Indian Penal Code as well as the Official Secrets Act, the Passport Act and the Foreigners Act. The court has considered it a serious matter related to national security.
