Patiala, September 2:- In order to avoid unnecessary deaths due to the terrible natural, climatic and human disasters and bombs being dropped during wars in Nepal and many other countries and to save the lives of the victims, efforts should be made on a war footing to conduct training, practice and mock drills on disaster management, civil defense, first aid, fire safety and ventilator positions from childhood.
Disclosing this information, Disaster Management, Civil Defense, First Aid and Fire Safety Trainer Shri Kaka Ram Verma expressed these views while training more than 500 cadets during the annual camp of 5 Punjab Battalion NCC. Kaka Ram Verma has been training students, teachers, police, factory workers, NSS volunteers and NCC for the last 45 years. Cadets are being trained to save precious lives during emergencies.
He said that he feels that instead of making students the helpers of the victims, they are trained and practiced in dancing, singing and dancing in educational institutions, but no efforts are made to train and practice in self-defense and helping the victims. Due to this, more than 80 percent of accidents and incidents are happening due to negligence and carelessness and children, youth and citizens are dying without any reason.
He has sent a letter to the Chief Minister of Punjab, Education Minister, Chief Secretary, Punjab State Human Rights Commission, Punjab State Child Protection Commission and Deputy Commissioner Patiala requesting that as per the National School Disaster Management Plan, students should be trained and practiced in disaster management, civil defense, first aid, CPR, fire safety, use of cylinders and self-defense during emergencies by subject experts. He said that students and teachers should not be limited to giving lectures only.
Kaka Ram Verma said that during the training, 10 types of teams of students should be formed, which should be given practical training on disaster management, civil defense, first aid, fire safety, rescue, transport, assembly points, use of helpline numbers, etc. Shopkeepers etc. near schools should also be included in these teams, because during emergencies, maximum help is provided by sympathetic people from outside.
He said that NDRF, fire brigade, police and ambulances reach the scene of the incident after some time after receiving information and start helping. Therefore, it is very important for people to be trained in the first few minutes of a disaster or emergency to save themselves as well as help the victims.
