SAS Nagar, February 5:- The Municipal Corporation, Mohali has launched an intensified city-wide road sweeping and sanitation drive aimed at ensuring cleaner roads, healthier surroundings, and a more vibrant urban environment.
Sharing details, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Mohali, Parminderpal Singh, IAS, said that the drive covers all major roads, markets, and residential areas of the city. The initiative focuses on the regular removal of dust, debris, horticultural waste, and litter from roads, footpaths, and central verges. Both manual and mechanized sweeping are being deployed to enhance coverage and efficiency, with special emphasis on high-traffic corridors and densely populated localities.
The Commissioner appealed to residents to cooperate with the ongoing cleanliness campaign by refraining from dumping waste on roads, maintaining litter-free surroundings, and avoiding roadside parking during scheduled sweeping hours. He added that the Corporation has also undertaken extensive cleaning of road gullies to prevent waterlogging and ensure hygienic conditions across the city.
In addition, clearance and maintenance of all Resource Management Centres (RMCs) in Zone No. 1 have been completed to further streamline waste management operations. Senior Municipal Corporation officers conducted on-site inspections of sanitation arrangements at RMC Sector 80, RMC Phase-9, and RMC Sector-69, along with adjoining commercial areas, to ensure effective functioning and timely waste processing. Twin bins have also been installed across market areas to promote segregation of waste at source.
Joint Commissioner, Jasjit Singh, PCS, stated that the Municipal Corporation remains firmly committed to maintaining high standards of urban cleanliness and environmental health under the Swachh Bharat Mission. He urged citizens to extend full cooperation in this collective effort and warned that strict action, including issuance of challans, will be taken against individuals or establishments found littering or violating cleanliness norms.
