New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has made a serious allegation against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that the government's intention behind abolishing MGNREGA is to take away the right of workers to decide their daily wages. Rahul Gandhi, while sharing a video of his interaction with MGNREGA workers on social media, said that the Modi government wants to take away the powers of the panchayats and concentrate all power in the hands of Delhi.
He said that this step is an attempt to push the country back to the old era of 'kings and maharajas', where all wealth and power was in the hands of only a few selected hands.
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi said that the same workers for whom MGNREGA was a life-changing scheme are now calling this government a 'slave-making government'.
He alleged that rights like minimum wage and year-round work guarantee are being abolished. It is noteworthy that the Congress party has launched a 45-day nationwide campaign 'MGNREGA Bachao Sangram' from January 10 to restore the UPA-era 'MGNREGA' law. The party is demanding that the new 'Developed India-Gram Act' be withdrawn.
