Chandigarh:- Heat has again gained momentum in North India including Punjab and Haryana. Today the mercury reached close to 45 degrees. Bathinda in Punjab and Rohtak in Haryana were the hottest. Meteorologists have predicted extreme heat in both the states for the next three days. Therefore, a yellow alert has also been issued for June 8 to 10. Due to the increase in heat, the demand for electricity has also shot up.
Not only has the life of the people become difficult due to extreme heat, but the problems of the farmers have also started increasing. Farmers are starting to fear that their crops will dry up. Farmers are having to water their fruits and vegetables for a day. On the other hand, paddy sowing has started in more than a dozen districts of Punjab, where farmers have to work in the heat. Paddy sowing will start in the remaining districts from June 9.
Due to the increase in heat in the state, the demand for electricity has started increasing again. Today, the demand for electricity in Punjab has crossed 12 thousand MW. However, in the past, this demand had remained at 10 thousand MW. The electricity department breathed a sigh of relief due to the decrease in the demand for electricity. However, with the increase in heat in the coming days, the demand for electricity may again cross 14 thousand MW. The department officials have claimed to have made all necessary arrangements in view of the increasing demand for electricity.
Bathinda in Punjab and Rohtak in Haryana remained the hottest today. The maximum temperature in Bathinda was 44.8 degrees Celsius and 43.6 degrees Celsius in Rohtak. Similarly, Amritsar recorded a temperature of 40.9 degrees Celsius, Ludhiana recorded 42 degrees, Patiala recorded 41.6 degrees, Pathankot recorded 40.5 degrees, Faridkot recorded 42.5, Gurdaspur recorded 40, Fazilka recorded 42.2 degrees Celsius and Ferozepur recorded 40.8 degrees Celsius.
