Hoshiarpur: While the list of donors is long today, we sincerely thank the Jain community for setting an example in society by donating eyes and bodies. Following the death of Mata Lalita Jain, a resident of Mohalla Kotla Gaunspur, her family members, Raman Jain (husband), Akash Jain (son), and Princey Jain (daughter-in-law), donated her eyes to Sankara Eye Hospital, Ludhiana, through the Rotary Eye Bank and Corneal Transplantation Society (Regd.), Hoshiarpur. The donation process was completed by a team of doctors from Sankara Eye Hospital.
On this occasion, Society President J.B. Bahl thanked the family and said that Mata Lalita Jain's eyes will bring light to two blind lives. Eyes donated by one person are transplanted to two different individuals. The number of corneal blindness sufferers is very high and the collection of corneas is very less but due to the awareness campaign run by the society, people are participating in eye donation and now people have started wishing that the eyes of their loved ones who have left this world should be able to see the world even after their death.
On this occasion, the Vice President of the society, Veena Chopra said that after death, the eyes remain alive for 6 to 8 hours and if they are donated on time, then light can be brought back in the life of the person suffering from corneal blindness. On this occasion, Ashwani Kumar Dutta, Veena Chopra, Ishaan Jain, Naresh Jain, Krishna Kishore and others were present.
