Karnal, October 13: Karnal MLA Jagmohan Anand chaired a meeting on Monday to review the progress of ongoing development works in the city. The meeting was attended by Karnal Municipal Corporation Mayor Renu Bala Gupta and Municipal Corporation Commissioner Dr. Vaishali Sharma, along with senior officials, branch heads, and representatives from the engineering and sanitation wings. Prior to the meeting, the MLA and Mayor met with the Municipal Corporation's mascot, Sheru. As part of the Haryana City Cleanliness Campaign 2025, Sheru will tour the city to raise awareness about cleanliness among citizens.
MLA Jagmohan Anand gave clear instructions to Municipal Corporation officials to set deadlines for development projects and ensure they are completed within the stipulated timeframe. He urged the Municipal Commissioner to ensure that priority projects are completed on time. He urged that any negligence in development projects be tolerated. He urged that all projects be completed in a timely manner so that the public can access services as quickly as possible.
He directed that the multi-layer parking lot at the old Municipal Corporation office site at Maharishi Valmiki Chowk, the old vegetable market site, and the Ram Leela Ground be completed within six months. A consultant should be appointed for this purpose and a detailed project report should be prepared. Executive Engineer O.P. Kardam informed him that a tender has been issued for the appointment of a consultant. The selection of the consultant will be initiated soon.
He directed the Municipal Commissioner to assign Superintending Engineer Puneet Kumar and Engineering Wing Advisor Mahipal Singh to handle major projects, ensuring timely completion and improved quality. He directed the Electricity Department to ensure that all streetlights, high-mast lights, and tricolor lights installed on the dividers of the main roads are in working condition before Diwali. Additionally, the city's intersections should be decorated with lights. He stated that the entire city should be illuminated during the festive season. He also emphasized the need to relocate the city's dairies to the Pingli Dairy Complex. He instructed the engineers to expedite road repairs and streetlight repairs at the complex.
Mayor's Instructions - During the meeting, Mayor Renu Bala Gupta directed the engineers to complete the beautification work on both sides of the road from Maharaja Agrasen Chowk to Shrimad Bhagavad Geeta Dwara. The fountain and beautification work at Meera Sahib Sadhbhavana (Meera Ghati) Chowk, the beautification of the road from Meera Ghati Chowk to Namaste Chowk, and the beautification of Karna Tal Park and Karna Park should be started soon.
He directed that the work on the commercial space project at the Old Grain Market be expedited to benefit local shopkeepers. The Karna Commercial Center (Mughal Canal) road construction should be completed soon. The Dayal Singh College road should be constructed with cement concrete. The green belt road from Shaheed Udham Singh Chowk to Meerut Road should also be expedited. He instructed engineers to continuously monitor the road construction to ensure there are no defects.
The Municipal Commissioner informed the MLA and Mayor that a consultant agency has been appointed to prepare the detailed project report (DPR) for the beautification of the Western Jumna Canal Riverfront, designing a food market with laser light shows, beautiful stalls, and lighting. Additionally, renovations are underway at Karna Park and Karna Tal Park, including a laser show and musical fountain based on the Mahabharata theme. Widening of the Model Town Road from the North Haryana Electricity Distribution Corporation office in Sector 12 to Kothi No. 47, beautification work on both sides of the road from Maharaja Agrasen Chowk to the Shrimad Bhagwad Geeta Dwar, and hiring a consultant for a multi-layer parking lot at the old Municipal Corporation office site. A consulting agency will be hired soon to prepare a DPR.
He stated that 53 dairies have been relocated to the Pingli Dairy Complex, and construction is underway on 40. Soil reclamation work is also underway. Road repairs, streetlights, and boundary walls will begin soon. He added that a vigorous campaign will be launched after Diwali to get dairies relocated. Dairies that fail to relocate will have their dairies sealed and their animals confiscated.
He said that a call center is being considered for property tax collection. A separate team will be deployed for this, which will call the city residents to pay the property tax. He said that in view of the festive season, instructions have been issued to the sanitation department regarding special cleanliness of the city.
Squares and intersections are being decorated with lamps etc. To ensure that there is no encroachment in the markets, encroachment removal teams are visiting the markets daily. The team remains in the markets from 4 to 7 pm.
