Patiala, December 17:- Keeping in mind the severe cold that is going on these days, Civil Surgeon Dr. Jaswinder Singh has issued an advisory to protect against diseases in this season due to the drop in temperature. He said that at this time, along with winter, a cold wave has started, in which mostly the elderly and young children are affected. They can get various types of diseases due to cold.
Therefore, the elderly and patients with heart diseases should avoid walking or going out of the house in the morning and late evening when there is a lot of cold and fog. Young children are at high risk of getting pneumonia in this season and due to cold, young children can also get vomiting and diarrhea. Therefore, paying special attention to the care of children, to protect them from winter, young children should be dressed in warm clothes that cover their bodies completely, along with a hat on their head and socks on their feet.
Children should not be allowed to walk barefoot on the ground. Never light a fire in a closed room in the house during winter season, because burning produces carbon monoxide gas and due to which there is a shortage of oxygen in the closed room, which can also prove life-threatening for us. He said that the District Health Department has asked the senior medical officers of the hospitals under the district to make necessary arrangements in the hospitals for the treatment of patients suffering from cold.
Shivering in cold should not be ignored, because this is the first sign that your body is losing heat. In such a situation, consumption of alcohol further increases the risk of death due to hypothermia (drop in body temperature). Dr. Sumit Singh, District Nodal Officer of the National Climate Change Human Health Program, said that patients with asthma and respiratory diseases should avoid going out of the house early in the morning when it is very cold and should also include warm things like soup, tea, coffee, and a balanced diet in their diet.
In this season, warm clothes should be worn in two or three layers so that the body temperature remains normal. It is important to eat healthy food to maintain the balance of body temperature. Fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin C should be eaten. To fulfill the lack of water in the body, lukewarm or warm water should be drunk at regular intervals or as needed, and a balanced diet should be consumed. He said that traffic rules should be followed and unnecessary travel should be avoided to prevent accidents during travel due to dense fog.
