Chandigarh, March 15:- Additional Chief Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Department, Dr. Sumita Mishra said that Haryana has achieved significant progress towards eliminating TB. In the year 2025, 2,157 village panchayats of the state have been declared TB free, which is about 35 percent of the total 6,237 panchayats of the state.
She said that under the TB Mukt Bharat campaign, the TB Mukt Panchayat initiative was launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi from Varanasi on World TB Day (March 24, 2023). The aim of this initiative is to make the Panchayati Raj Institutions understand the problems related to TB seriously, take necessary steps to solve them and encourage health competition among the Panchayats as well as their contribution to TB eradication. Dr. Mishra said that there has been a remarkable increase in the number of TB-free Panchayats in the last three years, which indicates the strong implementation of this program at the ground level. In the year 2023, 574 Panchayats of the state had received the certificate of being TB-free and all the Panchayats were in the bronze category, which was about 9 percent of the total Panchayats. In the year 2024, this number increased to 1855 Panchayats, which included 1542 Bronze and 313 Silver category Panchayats, which represented about 30 percent of the Panchayats in the state. In the year 2025, the number has increased to 2,157 panchayats.
He said that under this initiative, panchayats are awarded certificates at three levels. A panchayat is awarded a Bronze certificate for maintaining TB-free status for one year, a Silver certificate for maintaining it for two consecutive years, and a Gold certificate for maintaining it for three years. The certificates are issued by the Deputy Commissioner every year on the occasion of World TB Day and are valid for a year.
Six indicators are used to submit and verify the claims, which are validated by the District Development and Panchayati Raj Officer, Civil Surgeon and Deputy Civil Surgeon, after which a panchayat can be declared TB-free.
In the year 2025, out of 2,157 Panchayats, 211 Panchayats have been found in Gold, 646 Panchayats in Silver and 1300 Panchayats in Bronze category. According to district-wise data, out of a total of 400 Panchayats in Ambala district, 191 Panchayats have been found eligible for TB-free certificate, including 9 Gold, 79 Silver and 103 Bronze. In Bhiwani district, out of 312 Panchayats, 165 Panchayats have been found eligible, including 34 Gold, 59 Silver and 72 Bronze. In Charkhi Dadri district, out of 167 Panchayats, 27 Panchayats are eligible, including 10 Silver and 17 Bronze. In Faridabad district, 46 out of 100 panchayats are eligible, including 8 Gold, 17 Silver and 21 Bronze.
Similarly, 116 out of 259 panchayats in Fatehabad district, 96 out of 158 panchayats in Gurugram district, 99 out of 325 panchayats in Hisar district, and 67 out of 250 panchayats in Jhajjar district have been found eligible for TB free certificate. Similarly, 65 out of 300 panchayats in Jind district, 106 out of 277 in Kaithal district, 113 out of 385 in Karnal district and 145 out of 407 in Kurukshetra districts have been found eligible. Apart from this, 106 out of 343 Panchayats in Mahendragarh districts, 98 out of 325 Panchayats in Nuh (Mewat) district, and 110 out of 265 Panchayats in Palwal district have been found eligible for TB free certificate.
Similarly, 105 out of 133 Panchayats in Panchkula district, 56 out of 178 Panchayats in Panipat district, 131 out of 365 Panchayats in Rewari district, and 25 out of 142 Panchayats in Rohtak district have been found eligible. Apart from this, 119 out of 339 Panchayats in Sirsa district, 81 out of 317 Panchayats in Sonipat district, and 90 out of 490 Panchayats in Yamunanagar district have been found eligible for TB free certificate.
Dr Mishra said that the eligibility of Panchayats is verified through a well-structured three-tier process. In this, the claims are verified and verified by the District Development and Panchayat Officer, Civil Surgeon and Deputy Civil Surgeon (TB) of the other district. This process ensures that only those Panchayats are declared TB-free which meet the six criteria set by the Government of India. He said that the Haryana Government is committed to further accelerate the progress under the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and due to the active participation of Panchayats, the State is continuously moving towards the goal of TB elimination.
