Nawanshahr- Under the able guidance of Civil Surgeon Dr. Gurinderjit Singh, an inspiring event dedicated to humanity, social service, and medical education was organized on Thursday at the Civil Surgeon’s Office, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar. During the event, Civil Surgeon Dr. Gurinderjit Singh presented a ‘Body Donation Card’ to Jaspal Singh, a resident of village Majara (Balachaur), regarding his voluntary post-mortem body donation.
On this occasion, Civil Surgeon Dr. Gurinderjit Singh stated that body donation is a noble and virtuous act for the welfare of humanity. He remarked that in modern medical education, a deep understanding of the human body is not possible without cadavers. He explained that various organs of the deceased can help needy patients and prove to be an invaluable contribution to medical research.
He further added that students pursuing MBBS and other medical courses require cadavers to understand the structure and functioning of human organs. The availability of a body allows students to study every part of the human anatomy in detail, helping them become more skilled and capable doctors in the future.
The Civil Surgeon mentioned that if anyone wishes to donate their body, they must fill out a donation form and it is mandatory to inform their family so that the donation can be carried out according to their wishes after death. He appealed to the district residents to join this noble cause and pledge to serve society even after death.
Ratan Kumar Jain, General Secretary of Doaba Sewa Samiti, shared that their organization has motivated 146 people for post-mortem body donation so far. He explained that the organization helps volunteers fill out forms, which are then sent to Government Medical Colleges in Jalandhar or Amritsar, from where identity cards for the donors are issued.
Body donor Jaspal Singh stated that he took the decision to donate his body with the consent of his wife, Saroja Bala, and daughters, Samanpreet Kaur and Kirandeep Kaur. He said that after death, the human body eventually turns to dust, but if his body can assist a student in their studies and research to save lives in the future, there can be no greater service.
The event was attended by Deputy Medical Commissioner Dr. Harpreet Singh, District Family Welfare Officer Dr. Harish Kirpal, Dr. Raman Kumar, Master Husan Lal, and other officials and dignitaries.
