Una, December 19:- Under the progressive and sensitive leadership of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the Himachal Pradesh government is fully committed to the empowerment of persons with disabilities. Through various welfare schemes implemented by the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, persons with disabilities are being provided with economic security, a life of dignity, and self-reliance, enabling them to effectively participate in inclusive education, skill development, and mainstream society.
These efforts of the state government reflect the Chief Minister's pro-people and inclusive vision. The Chief Minister firmly believes that the objective is not merely to provide assistance to persons with disabilities, but to ensure that they receive respect, equal opportunities, and a secure future, which is the government's top priority.
**Disability Relief Allowance Scheme Provides Financial Support**
The state government's Disability Relief Allowance Scheme has become a powerful means of providing financial support to persons with disabilities. Under the scheme, men with 40 to 69 percent disability are provided a pension of Rs. 1150 per month, and women receive Rs. 1500 per month.
Men and women with 70 percent or more disability receive an assistance amount of Rs. 1700 per month. Mentally challenged individuals can also benefit from this scheme. The scheme benefits eligible individuals with 40 percent or more disability.
**8608 Beneficiaries in Una District are Benefiting**
District Welfare Officer Una, Awas Pandit, said that under the guidance of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the benefits of schemes for the welfare of persons with disabilities are being effectively delivered to eligible beneficiaries in the district.
He informed that 3450 men and women in the 40 to 69 percent disability category and 5100 men and women with more than 70 percent disability are benefiting from the Disability Relief Allowance Scheme in the district. He informed that an amount of Rs. 5,38,61,850 has been spent under this scheme in the district during the period from April to September 2026.
In addition, under the National Disability Pension Scheme, one beneficiary in the 40 to 69 percent disability category and 57 disabled persons with more than 70 percent disability are being provided a total pension of Rs. 2,78,850 per quarter. He clarified that individuals with less than 40 percent disability are not eligible for this scheme, while there is no income or age limit prescribed for eligible beneficiaries.
**Documents Required for Scheme Benefits**
To avail the benefits of the Disability Relief Allowance Scheme, a Himachal Pradesh domicile certificate, Aadhaar card, passport-size photograph, age certificate, disability certificate, family register extract, ration card, and a copy of the bank account details are required. Application forms for the scheme can be obtained from the office of the District Welfare Officer or the Tehsil Welfare Officer on any working day from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Deputy Commissioner Una, Jatin Lal, said that in accordance with the guidelines of Chief Minister Shri Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the district administration is ensuring that the benefits of all welfare schemes reach persons with disabilities in a timely and transparent manner.
The state government's welfare schemes are bringing positive changes in the lives of persons with disabilities and providing them with the opportunity to move forward in the mainstream of society with self-respect.
