Hoshiarpur- Under the guidance of Civil Surgeon Dr. Balbir Kumar and under the leadership of District Family Welfare Officer Dr. Ranjit Singh, an awareness camp dedicated to International Older Persons Day was organized at Old Age Home, Ram Colony Camp. The main objective of this camp was to spread public awareness about the health care, mental well-being and respect for the elderly.
On this occasion, Dr. Rosie (Medical Officer, Ram Colony Camp), Deputy Mass Media Officer Ramandeep Kaur, Mr. Omesh Malik and Male Health Worker Vikram were also present.
District Family Welfare Officer Dr. Ranjit Singh, while interacting with the elderly, said that International Older Persons Day is celebrated all over the world on October 1 every year, the main objective of which is to end abuse, neglect and injustice towards the elderly and to spread awareness about their rights.
He said, “We are taught from childhood that the elderly are the foundation of our homes. They are the guides of our lives. Their blessings are the greatest wealth for us.” Wishing all the elderly a healthy life, Dr. Ranjit Singh said that there are many facilities available for the elderly by the Health Department which should be taken maximum advantage of.
He said that this year the theme of the International Day of Older Persons* is — “Older Persons: Our Desires, Our Wellbeing and Our Rights – Action from Local to Global Levels” The main message of this theme is to strengthen the care and support systems for older persons and protect their rights.
