Hoshiarpur: In accordance with the directions of Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain, a comprehensive awareness campaign is being conducted by the Health Department and Red Cross teams to prevent Dengue and Chikungunya in the district. In this context, Red Cross volunteers, along with Health Department teams, conducted door-to-door surveys in various areas of Hoshiarpur city today. Volunteers from the Carmelite Charitable Society also played an active role in this campaign.
The Deputy Commissioner stated that the primary objective of this campaign is to sensitize people about diseases like Dengue and Chikungunya and to curb their spread. During the survey, teams inspected utensils, coolers, flower pots, tires, and other containers where water accumulates in and around houses, and ensured they were emptied. Additionally, residents were advised to empty, clean, and dry such containers at least once a week to destroy the larvae of the Aedes mosquito.
She emphasized that the Aedes mosquito breeds in clean water and is the carrier of serious diseases like Dengue and Chikungunya; therefore, public cooperation is vital. Larvicide spray was also applied by the teams in required areas to prevent mosquito breeding.
