Chandigarh, March 27:- Haryana’s Additional Chief Secretary, Medical Education and Research, Dr Sumita Mishra on Friday reviewed the progress of several government medical colleges in the state and gave strict instructions to the working agencies to follow the timelines and expedite the pending works. She said that the state government is moving towards expanding medical infrastructure and increasing the number of MBBS seats as well as providing easily accessible tertiary health services to the public.
Dr Sumita Mishra was chairing the 30th meeting of the Medical Education and Research Monitoring and Supervisory Committee (MSMER) in Chandigarh.
She directed the officials to ensure completion of civil works within the time frame, procurement of materials and recruitment of faculty. The Government Medical Colleges at Kaithal and Yamunanagar, both of which are about 80 percent complete, have been given a deadline of June 30, 2026.
Dr. Mishra asked the officials to start procurement of biomedical equipment and furniture, and obtain all necessary approvals from the National Medical Commission, so that admissions to MBBS can start from the academic session of 2027-28.
It was informed during the meeting that in the Government Medical College at Jind, where construction work has slowed down due to pending approval of revised financial estimates, the officials have been directed to follow up the matter with the Finance Department.
For the Government Medical College at Sirsa, which is about 35 percent complete, a target of March 31, 2027 has been set. The meeting also highlighted the concerns related to drinking water supply and storm water management at the site. Dr. Sumita Mishra directed that these issues be resolved at the earliest.
The meeting was also informed that the main campus of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay University of Health Sciences, Kutail, Karnal has been completed, while the work on the private ward project - estimated to cost Rs. 30.45 crore - is only about 30 per cent complete. The executing agency has been directed to expedite the construction work to meet the deadline of September 30, 2026.
For three institutions - University of Health Sciences, Kutail; Pandit Neki Ram Sharma Government Medical College, Bhiwani and Maharishi Chayvan Government Medical College, Koriyawas - where 100 MBBS students have already taken admission for the 2025-26 session, it was decided to constitute a committee to negotiate with the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to award the maintenance works. These works will include important infrastructure like HVAC system, lifts, DG sets, electrical sub-stations and water treatment plants, especially when the ‘defect liability period’ of these equipment is about to end.
The ongoing expansion works at Bhagat Phool Singh Government Women’s Medical College, Khanpur Kalan (Sonepat) and Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College, Karnal were also reviewed, and instructions were given to complete them on time.
Dr Mishra stressed that all the works should be completed within the stipulated time frame, so that the new medical colleges can become fully operational without any delay.
