Chandigarh, June 3:- Under the leadership of Haryana Power Minister Mr. Anil Vij, the state's power corporations are continuously achieving new achievements in the power sector. The Power Minister is paying special attention to the effective implementation of the Prime Minister Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme. In this regard, he has been giving necessary guidelines by holding regular review meetings with the senior officers of the Department of New and Renewable Energy and power corporations. The result of these continuous efforts is that Haryana has achieved commendable achievements at the national level by performing brilliantly under the Prime Minister Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme.
Haryana will be honored in three different categories during the national program “PM Surya Ghar: Two Years of Solar Energy: Expansion of Solar Energy to One Crore Roofs” organized by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India, in New Delhi on June 4, 2025. Haryana has been selected for the “PM Surya Ghar Excellence Award” based on its excellent performance in the “Month of Solar” campaign conducted during May 2026.
The three categories in which Haryana will receive awards include – 3rd place in the “Month of Solar – Maximum Consumer Applications” category (17,142 applications), 2nd place in the “Month of Solar – Maximum Solar Installations” category (11,983 installations), 3rd place in the “Month of Solar – Maximum DISCOM Inspections” category (12,514 inspections).
This achievement is the result of the visionary leadership of the Haryana Government, the Department of Energy, Haryana Renewable Energy Development Agency, Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam, Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam and the dedicated efforts of the officers and implementing agencies working at the field level.
It is worth mentioning that the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme was launched in February 2024. The aim of this important scheme is to install rooftop solar systems in one crore homes across the country by March 2027. Currently, more than 40 lakh families in the country have benefited from this scheme and more than 32 lakh rooftop solar plants have been installed.
So far, 86,152 rooftop solar systems have been installed in Haryana. On the other hand, the state government has set a target of installing 2 lakh 20 thousand rooftop solar systems by March 31, 2027. Work is being done rapidly in this direction so that maximum families can connect to clean energy and benefit from savings in electricity bills.
A delegation of officials associated with the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana will receive this honor from the Haryana government in the national program. This achievement is a major national recognition of the efforts being made in the state to promote renewable energy, strengthen self-reliance in the energy sector, and expand clean and green energy.
