Chandigarh, January 7:- Haryana has achieved remarkable achievements in India's fight against anemia, having screened more than 95 lakh beneficiaries under the Anemia Mukt Bharat (AMB) program since May 2022. This information was given by Haryana Health Minister Smt. Aarti Singh Rao after a meeting of officials today.
In the meeting held earlier, Health Secretary Mr. R. S. Dhillon, Director Dr. Virendra Yadav, State Nodal Officer of Anemia Mukt Haryana Dr. Sunidhi Karol and other senior officials were present. The Health Minister reiterated that the Haryana Government is fully committed to eradicating anemia and in the coming times also, efforts in this direction will be further strengthened by giving priority to the health of women and children.
He said that due to continuous efforts, innovative campaigns and effective monitoring system, Haryana secured the second position in the country with an AMB Composite Index score of 85.2 percent in the first quarter of the year 2025 (April-June). This was followed by further improvement in the performance in the second quarter (July-September 2025) where the state secured the third position with a score of 90 percent.
Aarti Singh Rao said that the basis of the success of the program is the Test-Treat-Talk-Track (T4) model, under which advice, initiation of Iron and Folic Acid (IFA) medication and regular follow-up are ensured immediately after the diagnosis of anemia, so that a complete recovery from the disease is possible.
Screening campaign on a large scale
He said that during the financial year 2025-26, Haryana had launched special campaigns like 100-day Anemia Special Campaign and Anemia Eradication Week to expedite the detection and treatment of anemia, which have now been expanded as Anemia Eradication Months in March and July 2025. Under these efforts, more than 17.5 lakh beneficiaries were screened across the state.
Taking this sequence forward, the state launched Sashakt Nari Swaroop Parivar Abhiyan from September 17 to October 2, 2025, during which about 2.5 beneficiaries were screened. After this, more than 1.5 lakh people were screened under the 100-day campaign till December 26, 2025.
Wider reach to vulnerable groups
The Health Minister said that this programme covers all vulnerable groups including children (6-59 months and 5-9 years), adolescents (10-19 years), women of reproductive age (20-49 years), pregnant women, lactating mothers and others. According to the data, the overall rate of anaemia has been reduced from 59.1 per cent to 51 per cent in the last three years, which shows an encouraging progress.
State Nodal Officer of Anaemia Free Haryana Dr. Sunidhi Karol said that the state has developed an anaemia tracking web portal for real-time monitoring, regular screening is being ensured in all OPDs and effective IEC kits have also been prepared for the prevention and management of anaemia.
He said that follow-up hemoglobin tests were conducted on more than 86,024 anemia patients between March and July, out of which 55.1 percent showed improvement in Hb levels, while 22.7 percent of the beneficiaries had their Hb levels normalized.
