Chandigarh:- Amid the continuous demand for his resignation by Congress, BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal over the alleged irregularities in the pharmacy examination, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains has counterattacked. He said that if his resignation improves the education and examination system of Punjab, then he is ready to resign today. Along with this, he claimed that the government itself exposed the irregularities revealed in the examination and initiated action against the culprits.
Bains said that the government is working on a zero tolerance policy in cases of paper leak, copying and corruption. Whatever irregularities came to light in the pharmacy examination, they were not suppressed but the administration itself detected them and took action. He said that the government's aim is to make the system clean, so instead of hiding the shortcomings, they were brought to the fore.
Bains accused the opposition of stirring up the issue for political gain. He said that during the previous governments, instead of taking action in cases of paper leaks and examination scams, they were suppressed, whereas the current government is taking action by reaching out to the culprits.
In fact, the opposition is constantly attacking the government over the alleged cheating and irregularities in the pharmacy examination. Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa and state president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, BJP's Kewal Singh Dhillon and Sunil Jakhar and Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal have surrounded the government and demanded the resignation of the minister concerned. The opposition has also targeted the issue of lathi-charge on employees recently by linking it to the government's functioning.
Bains said that the government's priority is to make the education and examination system transparent and trustworthy. If any irregularities are found, it is the government's policy to take action instead of hiding it.
