Ambala, August 20: A literary award ceremony was organized on July 23 at Dada Lakhmi Chand State University, Rohtak—marking the 123rd birth anniversary of the legendary poet Dada Lakhmi Chand—by the Haryana Sahitya and Sanskriti Akademi and the university. During the event, writers and scholars from Punjabi, Hindi, Haryanvi, Sanskrit, and Urdu literary fields were honored by the Chief Minister of Haryana, Shri Nayab Singh Saini. However, due to unavoidable circumstances, some awardees could not attend the scheduled program to receive their awards.
Among them were Gurbakhsh Singh Saini (Panchkula), recipient of the 'Haryana Punjabi Gaurav Puraskar' for the year 2019, and Dr. Charanjit Kaur (Mohali), recipient of the 'Maha Kavi Bhai Santokh Singh Puraskar'. They have now been honored at the Akademi's headquarters. Both were felicitated with the award, a shawl, and a memento by the Akademi's Executive Vice-Chairman Dr. Kuldeep Chand Agnihotri, Member Secretary Manjit Singh, and Director of the Punjabi Department Harpal Singh Gill.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Kuldeep Chand Agnihotri stated that the Akademi is making every possible effort to promote literature. To bring high-quality literature to the general public, works are being translated from various languages ??and published by the Akademi. As part of this initiative, the 'Bal Kand' of the Valmiki Ramayana has been translated into Punjabi and published.
He mentioned that while the institution publishes magazines in Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu, and Sanskrit, it is also leveraging modern technology to share information about its activities and future programs with readers, writers, and intellectuals. A monthly e-magazine is being circulated across the state via WhatsApp groups, enabling people from all corners of the region to connect with the Akademi quickly and easily.
