Patiala/Lambi:- Four prominent leaders including former OSD of Punjab Chief Minister Onkar Singh have joined BJP today. They were inducted into the party by BJP state president Sunil Jakhar. It is worth mentioning that Charanjit Singh Brar, who resigned from Akali Dal revival, has also joined this party. Similarly, former MPs Jagmeet Brar and Ripjit Brar have also joined BJP.
They were welcomed into the party by Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini at the Punjab BJP office in Sector-37, Chandigarh on Friday.
It is worth mentioning that Charanjit Brar had earlier left the Shiromani Akali Dal and joined the Shiromani Akali Dal led by former Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Giani Harpreet Singh, but two days ago he also left that party and now joined the BJP. Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini said that the leaders who joined the BJP have taken an important step for the welfare of Punjab.
He alleged that today there is an atmosphere of fear in Punjab from industrialists to the common people and under the leadership of PM Modi, the BJP will strengthen Punjab. Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar said that Punjab is running without a government today and people are looking at the BJP as their only hope. Along with this, the BJP has also announced to surround the residence of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann today regarding law and order.
On the other hand, the joining of Prof. Onkar Singh, who was once a great confidant of Bhagwant Mann, to the BJP is being considered a big political challenge for the Chief Minister. Prof. belongs to Roranwali village of Lambi constituency. Onkar Singh was the Chief Minister's OSD for two years and was very active in the Dhuri assembly constituency.
There is talk in the political corridors that the BJP may field him from Bhagwant Mann's constituency Dhuri or Lambi in the 2027 elections. Onkar Singh, who is currently a professor of civil engineering at Punjabi University, Patiala, is known for his humble nature and his joining the BJP may put the AAP's internal strategies in the hands of the BJP.
His background has also been associated with the traditional politics of the Lambi constituency. He has also been associated with the team of Gurdas Singh Badal, the younger brother of former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and father of former Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal.
