Chandigarh, July 6:- Haryana Health Minister Aarti Singh Rao said that every pregnant woman in the state will get timely, quality and comprehensive maternal health services. She directed the officials to intensify community outreach so that no pregnant woman is deprived of the necessary antenatal care or institutional delivery services.
Aarti Singh Rao said that as part of a major initiative to strengthen maternal health services and further reduce the maternal mortality rate in the state, the National Health Mission Haryana has decided to observe 'Shunya Nivarani Matri Moot Pakhwada' in all the districts of the state from tomorrow, July 7 to July 22. The objective of this fortnight-long campaign is to ensure that every pregnant woman gets timely, quality and comprehensive maternal health services so that no maternal death occurs that could have been prevented. This initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to safeguarding maternal lives and achieving the highest standards of maternal health services.
He said that the Health Department is steadfast in its commitment to providing accessible, equitable and high quality maternal health services. Through the collective efforts of health workers, medical professionals, supporting institutions and the society, the state aims to make the ‘Shunya Nivarani Matri Mritya Pakhwada’ a significant milestone in safeguarding maternal lives and ensuring safe motherhood for every woman in Haryana.
The Health Minister has urged all healthcare providers, both in the government and private sectors, to work in close coordination during the Pakhwada and ensure timely, safe and quality care for every pregnant woman. He has also urged families to encourage pregnant women to undergo regular antenatal check-ups, identify danger signs early and seek immediate medical attention if needed.
Dr. R. S. Sharing information about the said fortnight, Dr. Dhillon said that detailed review meetings have been held with all the Civil Surgeons to ensure effective implementation of this campaign. During these meetings, the Civil Surgeons have been directed to take strict and proactive steps to identify high-risk pregnancies, strengthen antenatal care services, ensure timely referrals, maintain round-the-clock readiness in the first referral units and closely monitor every pregnant woman who needs special attention. District Health Officers have also been directed to maintain strict vigilance and respond promptly to any obstetric emergency. Dr. Dhillon further said that special emphasis has been laid on identification and follow-up of high-risk pregnancies, timely referral and transportation, availability of blood and blood components, emergency obstetric care, specialist services and smooth functioning of labour room and maternity facilities. The health teams have also been directed to intensify community outreach through ASHAs, NMs, staff nurses and medical officers to ensure that no pregnant woman is left without adequate antenatal care or institutional delivery services.
Dr. Virendra Yadav, Director, NHM, further informed that considering maternal health as a shared responsibility, the Health Department has sought active cooperation and participation from the State President of Indian Medical Association Haryana and the Presidents of Haryana Chapter of Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecological Societies of India. These organizations have been requested to actively participate in the campaign and provide all possible assistance in achieving the objective of zero maternal mortality.
Dr. Virendra Yadav further informed that the IMA And all private doctors affiliated with FOGSI will provide "2 free postnatal check-ups" to all maternity women within 7 days of delivery in their respective hospitals. He said that this step will ensure quality postnatal care check-ups and eliminate any high risk factors that can be fatal to the life of a breastfeeding mother.
