New Delhi, June 18 - Union Minister Jitendra Singh today said that all central government employees included in the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) will now be entitled to retirement and death gratuity benefits available under the Old Pension Scheme (OPS).
Regarding this demand of government employees, he said that this step addresses the demand of government employees and brings equality in retirement benefits. Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh said that the new arrangement reflects the government's commitment to ensure social security for all categories of employees under the National Pension Scheme (NPS).
He said during a press conference on the journey of the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions in the last 11 years that several reforms have been made with the aim of simplifying governance.
 The Minister said that Central Government employees covered under UPS will now be eligible for retirement and death gratuity benefits as per the provisions of the Central Civil Services (Payment of Gratuity under NPS) Rules, 2021.
 The Department of Pensions and Pensioners Welfare (DoPPW), Ministry of Personnel, today issued an order regarding the options for Central Government employees covered under UPS to avail benefits under OPS on their termination from government service due to death or disability of a government employee during service. 
“This order provides an option to an employee to opt for re-enrolment under OPS in case of death during service. This addresses the clarifications sought by the employees,” said DoPPW Secretary V. Srinivas.
