EDMONTON (Canada): The Edmonton chapter of the World Punjabi Sabha was established at the beautiful Edmonton Public Library, 17 Street Meadows, with the warm support of Dr. Dalbir Singh Kathuria, Chairman of World Punjabi Sabha Brampton (Canada). The election for this sabha was conducted unanimously, in which Balwinder Singh Balam was chosen as Patron, Dalbir Singh Ryad as President, Amrit Pal Singh as General Secretary, Surjit Kaur Dhaliwal as Senior Vice President, Daljit Kaur Mander as Vice President, Satnam Singh Gahle as Secretary, Tejinderpal Lali as Secretary, and Manager Narinder Singh as Treasurer. Arshdeep Kaur Brar, Gurjit Kaur Brar, and Balbir Kaur Cheema were selected as advisors.
In their addresses, Sabha Patron Balwinder Balam and President Dalbir Singh Ryad stated that serving Punjabi and Punjabiyat in the form of literature and culture while living in a country like Canada is an auspicious sign. Connecting our children and the young generation to their mother tongue, literature, and other sports activities and festivals is true creative service to the Punjabi mother tongue. It is an inspiring and encouraging effort to keep the mother tongue alive. 
Nations remain alive because of their culture, and this Punjabi Sabha will also continue to make a valuable contribution through its mother tongue and cultural activities. They stated that today in society, women have redefined beauty and form. Whether in youth or old age, sorrow or joy, unity or collective life, literature inspires and encourages human beings at every turn of life. Spiritual life is an even stronger form of literature.
During this gathering, the poets and poetries present delivered messages of culture and mother tongue through their poems. Writers, poets, journalists, intellectuals, and literature lovers participated heavily in this gathering. Those who participated included Ajit Singh Khangussa, Paras Mahediyan, Gurbachan Singh Attwal, Amarjit Singh Sandhu, S. Brar, M.K. Parmar, Amardeep Kaur, Daljit Kaur Mander, Jasmel Bath, Harmesh Gill, Balbir Kaur Cheema, Gurjit Brar, Tajinder Pal Singh Ryad, Jaspreet Kaur, Amrik Singh, Paul Amar Singh, Narinder Singh Cheema, Sant Ram, Kamaljit Singh, Tajinder Singh, Gurdial Singh Sangha, Simran, Varinder Kaur, Palwinder Kaur, Satnam Singh, Rajwinder Kaur, Sukhwinder Kaur, Hardeep Kaur, Arshdeep Kaur, Paramjit Kaur, Sukhdev Singh, Bakhshish Singh, Mandeep Kaur, and Jaspal Singh. In the end, all the visiting writers, scholars, and poets were thanked by Sabha President Dalbir Singh Ryad.
