Hoshiarpur: The Eye Donation Association (Regd.), Hoshiarpur, is observing an Eye Donation Awareness Fortnight from August 25 to September 8. During this period, various programs will be organized to spread widespread awareness regarding eye and organ donation.
The Association has been continuously serving the cause of eye donation since the year 2000. Over the past 26 years, more than 1,500 corneas have been collected and made available for transplantation to needy patients. Additionally, more than 26 cadavers have been donated to medical institutions in Punjab for medical education and research.
Organ donation awareness efforts were significantly intensified during the campaign commemorating the 350th Martyrdom Day of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji. As a result of these efforts, over 2,055 organ donation registrations from Hoshiarpur district were recorded on the NOTTO portal, securing the top position for Hoshiarpur among all districts in Punjab.
In recognition of these outstanding services, the Eye Donation Association, Hoshiarpur, was honored with a certificate of appreciation during the Independence Day event held at Police Lines, Hoshiarpur. This honor was presented by Cabinet Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh (Minister for NRI Affairs, Jails, and Parliamentary Affairs) and Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Ashika Jain.
Awareness camps, seminars, public meetings, pledge campaigns, and educational programs will be organized during the fortnight. Schools, colleges, social and religious institutions, and the general public have been urged to join this noble cause.
The Association has appealed to people to pledge to donate their eyes and organs and to raise awareness about this among their family members as well.
