Chandigarh, September 2026:- Observing September as Pain Awareness Month, the Association of Pain Medicine (AOPM), in collaboration with Panjab University, organized a pain awareness programme at the Department of Physical Education. Around 150 students and staff members participated in the programme.
The programme was organized with the cooperation and support of Dr. Rupinder Kaur, Head, Bhai Ghaneyaji Institute of Health, and Prof. Th. Nandlal Singh, Head, Department of Physical Education, Panjab University.
The programme began with a poster and rangoli-making activity and a slogan-writing competition on the theme of chronic pain. Through their creativity, students presented pain, its impact and related messages in an impressive manner.
This was followed by two lectures on pain awareness by experts. Prof. Babita Ghai, Consultant-in-Charge, Pain Clinic, PGIMER Chandigarh and Secretary, AOPM, delivered a lecture on “Understanding Chronic Pain”, explaining that pain that persists for a long time is not merely a symptom but an important health problem that affects a person's health, daily life and quality of life.
Dr. Vanita Ahuja, Professor, Department of Anaesthesia, GMCH and Treasurer, AOPM, provided information on “Chronic Neck and Back Pain”. She highlighted the common causes of neck and back pain, preventive measures and the importance of timely and appropriate treatment.
The programme concluded with an interactive open forum, during which students and staff asked various questions related to pain and interacted directly with the experts.
On the occasion, AOPM emphasized that it is not necessary to consider pain normal and continue to suffer from it. The organization aims to take scientific and evidence-based information related to pain beyond hospitals and clinics and into the community, particularly to increase awareness among young people and encourage individuals to seek appropriate medical assistance in time.
The message of the programme was simple yet impactful—
“Stop enduring pain and choose the right treatment!”
