Hoshiarpur:- Honorable Deputy Commissioner Hoshiarpur Ashika Jain IAS, Civil Surgeon Hoshiarpur Dr. Mandeep Kamal and Deputy Medical Commissioner Dr. Swati Shimar, District De-Drug Rehabilitation Center Hoshiarpur organized an awareness seminar on the ill effects of drug addiction and its treatment at HP Gas Plant, Mandiala.
On this occasion, HP Gas Plant Manager Shri Deepak Kumar, Sanchit Kansal Safety Officer Ravi Kumar, District De-Drug Rehabilitation Center Hoshiarpur Prashant Adian Counselor, Amandeep Tiwari, Charanjit Singh MPHW Sub Center Ajram P. H. C. Harta Badla, ASI Kashmiri Lal Chowki Nasrala, Subhash Chandra were specially present.
On this occasion, the center's expert counselor Prashant Adia gave detailed information to the workers about the physical, mental, social and economic damage caused by different types of drugs. He said that addiction is a disease which can be treated timely and properly. People suffering from drug addiction were motivated to get treatment by taking advice from expert doctors.
During the seminar, information regarding drug de-addiction services, counseling, treatment through medicines and rehabilitation was also shared. The participants were given a message to contribute to the creation of a drug-free society and to keep the youth away from drugs.
He said that drugs do not only harm the body, but also badly affect the education, employment, family relations and social life of a person. He said that instead of hating people struggling with the problem of drugs, they should be motivated for proper treatment and counseling.
Counselor Prashant said that addiction is a long-term and relapsing disease, the treatment of which is provided free of cost by the Health and Family Welfare Department, Punjab. Giving information about the Tele-Manas service, he said that for advice and counselling on mental stress, anxiety, depression and addiction, one can contact the 24-hour free helpline 14416 and 1800-89-14416. For help at the district level, the helpline number 85580-01882 is available.
He further said that the Health Department, Punjab is running OOAT clinics at the district, sub-division and CHC levels, where drug-based treatment is started through an online system after the written consent of the patient and family. Apart from this, special treatment and support services are available for people who use drugs through injection in the OST centers running under the National AIDS Control Program.
The managers and employees of HP Gas Plant appreciated this initiative and assured their cooperation in organizing such awareness programs in the future as well. On this occasion, the staff of the center, HP Gas Plant officials and a large number of employees were present. At the end of the camp, Amandeep Tiwari administered an oath to all the youth and staff members present to remain drug free and make the society drug free.
