Hoshiarpur, September 11:- A demand has been made to register an FIR against Finance Minister Harpal Cheema and arrest him in connection with the alleged case of forcing Gulzar Singh of Punjab's Dirba Assembly Constituency to commit suicide. On the directions of District Congress Hoshiarpur President Daljit Singh Gilzian, senior Congress leaders from Hoshiarpur submitted a memorandum addressed to the Director General of Police through Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Navneet Kaur Gill.
On the occasion, Advocate Rohit Joshi said that if serious allegations emerge in any case, the law should be equal for everyone. No person should be exempted from legal action on the basis of their position or political influence.
The Congress leaders demanded that a fair and transparent investigation into the matter be conducted and that an FIR be registered against Harpal Cheema and he be arrested.
They said that the people of Punjab demand accountability, transparency and adherence to the law from the government. The Congress party will oppose any kind of injustice or double standards.
District Congress Hoshiarpur demanded that the police chief take immediate cognizance of the matter raised in the memorandum and take appropriate action in accordance with the law.
Advocate Rohit Joshi, Thakur Narvir Nandi, Ashwani Sharma, Gurdeep Katoch, Rajnish Tandon, Ashok Sharma, Sukhbir Singh and Raja Saini were present on the occasion.
