Hoshiarpur: Sanjeev Talwar, the Shiromani Akali Dal's constituency in-charge, has launched a scathing attack on the district administration, alleging that it is not at all serious about conducting the municipal corporation elections. Due to the administration's poor arrangements, several candidates were unable to submit their nomination papers on the very first day, turning the democratic process into a mockery.
In a statement issued to the press, Sanjeev Talwar said that the Hoshiarpur Municipal Corporation elections have been mired in controversy from the outset. First, major errors in the voter lists came to light, followed by difficulties faced by candidates in obtaining ward maps. Now that the nomination process has begun, no adequate arrangements were made by the administration at the election centers even by 1:00 PM on the first day.
He revealed that at one election center, voter lists were not even delivered, disrupting the form submission process. Shiromani Akali Dal representatives faced immense inconvenience due to this negligence. Talwar stated that today, owing to the government's failures, only five out of sixteen Shiromani Akali Dal candidates could submit their nomination papers. He asserted that this is proof of the administration's outright failure and incompetence.
Sanjeev Talwar has strongly urged the Punjab Election Commission to take immediate and serious cognizance of these complaints. He called for ensuring proper and robust arrangements at election centers immediately to conduct the elections in a fair and transparent manner, thereby preventing any violation of the candidates' democratic rights.
