Hoshiarpur:- The main objective of the District Red Cross Society, run under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain, is to help the poor, differently-abled, special children, the needy and the helpless and the Red Cross Society is working continuously to fulfill this objective. Under this, a mega camp was organized by the society recently to distribute assistive devices to 155 differently-abled people, in which the differently-abled were provided with motorized tricycles, wheel chairs, tricycles, hearing aids, walking sticks etc.
Apart from this, the society is running the ‘Wings Project’ for autistic (special) children, in which special children have been provided employment by training them to run canteens. Currently, 14 special children are serving in this. Continuing this series, today, on the occasion of International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the Red Cross Society provided free eye glasses to 21 special children of Atmadev AtmaSukh School.
Giving further information, he said that earlier, the Red Cross, in collaboration with Thind Eye Hospital, Jalandhar, had conducted a free eye test of all the special children and staff members of Atmadev AtmaSukh School. Based on that test, eye glasses have been distributed to a total of 21 special children and staff members of the school.
Navdeep Sood, President of Atmadev AtmaSukh School, highly appreciated this initiative of the Red Cross Society. He said that providing glasses to 21 special children and staff members will not only improve their vision but will also have a very positive impact on their learning and teaching experience.
