Una, June 22: Nav Bains, Chairman of the Maharshi Valmiki Guru Ravidas Youth Ekta Mahasabha, has expressed concern over the disregard for hygiene norms by certain fast food outlets, street vendors, and food sellers operating in the Una district. He emphasized that strict attention to cleanliness must be maintained while selling food items; however, the situation observed in many places is quite the opposite.
Nav Bains noted that at some outlets, vendors do not wear masks or gloves while preparing food. Furthermore, some individuals are seen preparing and serving food while chewing *gutkha* or tobacco, a practice that violates health standards. Additionally, issues regarding the presence of rats and general filth have been observed at some shops, posing a risk of food contamination.
He stated that such negligence could pose a serious threat to public health. It could have an adverse effect, particularly on children, as contaminated food can lead to various illnesses. He urged parents to ensure they purchase food for their children only from clean and safe establishments and to remain vigilant about hygiene when buying food products.
Nav Bains has demanded that the Food Safety Department conduct regular inspections of fast food outlets, street vendors, and other food sellers in the district. He also called for raising awareness among them regarding food safety and hygiene regulations to ensure the protection of public health, especially that of children.
