Hoshiarpur:- A delegation of Pramukh Jan Kalyan Charitable Trust, Palanpur (Banaskantha district, Gujarat) met former MP Avinash Rai Khanna and demanded to set up a special camp to issue caste certificates to families of Nat-Madari community living in village Chakrahta of Garhshankar tehsil for the last 30-35 years.
The delegation told Khanna that the Nat-Madari community belongs to the liberated and nomadic tribes (NT-DNT), whose members live in many states of the country including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Madhya Pradesh. This community has traditionally been making a living through herbal medicines, indigenous medicines and traditional healing knowledge received from ancestors.
The delegation said that many families of the community have been living in Punjab for years, but due to lack of caste certificates, they are deprived of establishing their social identity and taking advantage of various welfare schemes being run by the government. Therefore, it is very important to issue caste certificates to eligible families.
Pramukh Jan Kalyan Charitable Trust submitted a memorandum to Avinash Rai Khanna in this regard and appealed that special camps be organized in coordination with the concerned governments and administration, so that caste certificates can be issued to eligible families of the Nat-Madari community. SP Diwan was also present on the occasion.
