Hoshiarpur:- Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain said that the efforts being made to ensure the health and better future of children in the district are yielding positive results. She said that a special screening camp was organized in the first week of February under ‘Project Roshni’ run by Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMC) Ludhiana and under the National Child Health Programme (RBSK), which benefited thousands of children.
According to Dr. Priyanka Arora of DMC Ludhiana, during this campaign, health screening was conducted in 15 government and private schools of the district and a total of 3,402 children’s eyes were checked. The report of government schools has been shared with the RBSK team, while children who need glasses will be provided free glasses under the National Blindness Control Programme (APCB).
He said that during the camp, some children were found to have visual impairment, who were given glasses on the spot, while children with serious problems were advised further treatment and surgery. In the same series, two children from Hoshiarpur district were found to have squint. Successful surgery was performed on both these children at DMC Hospital Ludhiana.
Among them, one girl is a student of Government Senior Secondary School Bassi Kalan and the other is a student of SAV Jain Day Boarding School, Hoshiarpur. Both the surgeries were successful and good improvement in the vision of the children was recorded. He said that this entire medical procedure was completely free for the children and their families, which gave great relief to the economically weaker families.
He clarified that children below the age of 18 are included under Project Roshni, so that vision problems can be identified at an early stage and timely treatment can be ensured. Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain lauded the expert team of DMC Ludhiana for this commendable work and said that such health services prove to be a boon for the weaker sections of the society. She especially appreciated the contribution of Red Cross Society Secretary Mangesh Sood and his team and said that the role of Red Cross was very important in organizing the camp, identifying the children, contacting the parents and coordinating the treatment process.
