Una, April 10 – During his visit to Una district on April 11, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu will lay the foundation stone for site development and infrastructure works worth ?250 crore for the Bulk Drug Park project—a project of national importance. On Saturday at 3:30 PM, in addition to laying the foundation for these works at Polian (under the Haroli subdivision), he will also lay the foundation stone for a Working Women's Hostel to be constructed at Panjuana at a cost of ?8 crore. Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri and the Minister for Industries and Parliamentary Affairs, Harshvardhan, will be present alongside him on this occasion. This information was provided by Anshul Dhiman, Joint Secretary of the Department of Industries.
It is worth noting that, following these events, the Chief Minister will formally inaugurate the four-day state-level 'Haroli Utsav 2026,' which commences on April 11.
Significantly, this industrial complex—being developed at a cost of ?2,000 crore and spanning 1,405 acres—will empower India on the global stage in the manufacturing of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs). Until now, India had to rely on other nations—particularly China—for the raw materials required for medicines. In this context, this project will serve as the fundamental bedrock of India's self-reliance in the pharmaceutical sector.
Currently, only three Bulk Drug Park projects are being established across the entire country, one of which is taking shape right here in Haroli, Himachal Pradesh. This is a matter of immense pride for the people of the state. It is estimated that this project will generate direct and indirect employment opportunities for approximately 15,000 people.
**Policy Resolve and Commitment to Public Welfare**
The original concept for this project was proposed by the Central Government with private sector participation; however, the current State Government took the bold decision to execute and manage it independently, driven by the ethos of prioritizing public interest above all else. The State and Central governments are collaborating as partners in this project, each contributing an equal investment of ?1,000 crore.
Under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, this project is progressing at an accelerated pace. Works related to drinking water schemes worth ?66 crore, under the aegis of the Jal Shakti Department, have already been completed. Additionally, the construction of a 5-km-long railway line—at an estimated cost of ?3,400 crore—is also proposed; this line will connect the park to the national railway network, thereby strengthening investment prospects and supply chains. Furthermore, work is underway on an action plan to upgrade the Santoshgarh-Jaijon road at a cost of ?500 crore, which will serve as the foundation for robust road connectivity for the Bulk Drug Park project.
At every stage of the project's implementation, strict adherence to all guidelines issued by the National Green Tribunal, the Pollution Control Board, and both the Central and State governments has been ensured. Dedicated schemes have been formulated for water conservation, groundwater recharge, afforestation, and pollution control.
