Lehragaga/Sangrur, September 13:- Giving ground-level shape to Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s vision of taking canal water to the tail ends, Punjab Cabinet Minister for Water Resources, Land and Water Conservation Barinder Kumar Goyal dedicated to the public the completed pipeline projects at village Rajlahedi, constructed at a cost of approximately Rs. 7 crore 74 lakh.
Praising Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Goyal said that instead of merely seeing canal water flowing in canals, the government has prioritised taking it to the last tail end of the farmer’s field. He said, “The real success of such projects is when water reaches the field of the farmer sitting at the tail end.” He said that the Punjab Government is continuously taking forward work in this direction to strengthen farming and conserve the state’s water resources. He said, “The stream of water at the tail end irrigates not just the field, it also irrigates the farmer’s hope.”
Giving details of the projects, he said that approximately 42 kilometres of underground pipeline has been laid in the area connected with the Landran Rajbah under the Harigarh Branch. Through this system, access to canal water has been created for approximately 1,988 acres of land. A total of Rs. 7.74 crore has been spent on pipeline works related to Rajlahedi, Bhutian Hamirgarh, Badalgarh and Jorgarh.
The Cabinet Minister said that the importance of canal water increases further because at several places in the area, groundwater is not suitable for agriculture. The use of canal water will benefit crops and soil fertility, while also helping reduce dependence on tubewells and electricity. On criticism from opposition parties, Goyal said that today people form their opinion by seeing the work done before their eyes rather than political statements. People are the biggest evaluators, and they themselves have to decide the verdict on the government’s work.
He said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, this campaign to expand the reach of canal water is not only an effort to provide water to the farmer’s present crop but also an effort to conserve groundwater for the coming generations of Punjab.
