Mohali: On Sunday, approximately 150 cancer survivors—including a six-year-old girl—participated in a cancer awareness event at Max Hospital, Mohali, to mark Cancer Survivors Day. The event highlighted the inspiring stories of survivors and emphasized the importance of early diagnosis, timely treatment, and continuous support throughout the cancer treatment journey.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sachin Gupta, Director of Medical Oncology at Max Hospital, said, "Surviving cancer is a testament to inner strength, determination, and the advancements made in cancer treatment. Today, many types of cancer can be successfully treated through early diagnosis and a multidisciplinary management approach."
At the event, survivors shared their personal experiences of triumphing over cancer, inspiring others with stories of hope, perseverance, and recovery. The program also shed light on the importance of cancer prevention, regular screenings, and robust support systems.
Six-year-old Arnika’s battle against blood cancer not only tested her courage but also uplifted her family's morale. Her parents recall that when the disease was diagnosed last year, amidst the shadow of despair, it was their little daughter who pulled them out of depression and taught them to fight like warriors.
Addressing the gathering, Arnika shared wisdom from the Bhagavad Gita and urged others to face the illness without fear and to fight with unwavering determination. This same indomitable spirit was evident in 43-year-old Amritpal Kaur from Jalandhar, who refused to give up hope even after being diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer.
Amritpal Kaur said, "I kept telling myself that this is just an illness and it can only weaken me for a short while. Ultimately, my hope and determination will triumph over it."
