Hansi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has alleged that a ?1500 crore work slip scam has taken place in the Labour Department under Minister Anil Vij of the "work slip and bribe" government of Haryana. The supposedly honest Saini government is now busy protecting the culprits and trying to cover up the matter for fear of exposure.
In a statement issued to the press, the party's district president, Rajendra Sorkhi, said that there were massive irregularities in the work slips issued between August 2023 and March 2025 in the Labour Department, headed by Cabinet Minister Anil Vij. The tenure of Dushyant Chautala, who was the Deputy Chief Minister during the previous government led by Manohar Lal Khattar, and Anoop Dhanak, who was the Labour Minister in that government, has also come under suspicion.
Rajendra Sorkhi said that the figures show that in the investigation conducted in 13 districts, only 53,000 out of approximately 5.99 lakh work slips were found to be genuine, while more than 5.46 lakh were found to be fake. The same was the case with the names of the laborers. Out of 2.21 lakh names, only 14,000 were found to be genuine. All this fraud continued while the government and officials remained oblivious.
Rajendra Sorkhi demanded a thorough investigation into the entire matter and that all the culprits be exposed. The scam is likely to be even bigger. In the unfolding layers of corruption, it has come to light that in many places, entire villages were fraudulently registered, and people who were not entitled to the schemes continued to benefit from them. One person received benefits of up to ?2.5 lakh from different schemes, causing a loss of crores of rupees to the government exchequer.
All this continued under the nose of a government that claims to have 'zero tolerance' for corruption, and when the matter came to light, the minister is merely writing letters and talking about an investigation, giving the culprits ample opportunity to destroy evidence. This cover-up raises the question: has the system truly woken up, or is it just a matter of shuffling files?
The Haryana government must answer whether this scam will also be buried under a pile of files in the name of an investigation, or if any concrete action will be taken at the ground level.
