Dhuri, October 5:- With the aim of expanding sports facilities in Dhuri city and encouraging youth to take up sports, badminton courts have been developed by upgrading the indoor sports hall adjoining MC Park at Sabzi Mandi, Dhuri, at a cost of Rs 27.63 lakh. The courts were inaugurated today by OSD to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Sukhveer Singh.

On the occasion, OSD Sukhveer Singh said that the Punjab Government was continuously making efforts to connect youth with sports and provide better basic facilities to sportspersons. He said that along with the overall development of Dhuri, the required sports infrastructure was also being developed so that local sportspersons could get a better environment to hone their talent.

He said the newly developed badminton courts would benefit sportspersons, children and other sports enthusiasts of Dhuri. Coaching facilities would be provided in the morning and evening for children preparing for championships. ID cards would also be prepared for sportspersons and members of the concerned association.

He said special timings would also be fixed for senior citizens, while a special time slot from 11 am to 2 pm would be reserved for women. A detailed schedule in this regard would be prepared and issued soon.

Municipal Council Dhuri President Amarjot Kaur Bajwa said that a schedule for the use of the badminton courts would soon be prepared so that people from all sections could make proper use of the sports facility.

OSD Sukhveer Singh said that along with further strengthening sports facilities in Dhuri, priority was also being given to the development of the city’s basic infrastructure. He said every possible effort would be made as required to further strengthen Dhuri in terms of development.

On the occasion, Market Committee Dhuri Chairman Rajwant Singh Ghulli, Waqf Board Member Dr Anwar Bhasaur, Food Commission Member Jasvir Singh Sekhon, District Council Chairman Rachhpal Singh Bhullar, Rubal Bajwa, Naresh Singla and a large number of Municipal Council Dhuri members were also present.
