Hoshiarpur:- In case of any emergency situation where excess water is released from the dam into the Beas River, people living along the riverbanks will now receive immediate alerts. For this purpose, the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) has installed an advanced early warning system along the banks of the Beas River. The system was inaugurated online by BBMB Chairman Engineer Manoj Tripathi.
Under this initiative, 6 early warning systems have been installed. On this occasion, Chief Engineer of Beas Dam Rakesh Gupta, Deputy Chief Engineer Vimal Kumar Meena, Superintending Engineer Manveen Chaudhary, Executive Engineer Vinay Kumar, and SDO Parminder Singh were also present at the site.
Chairman Manoj Tripathi stated that earlier, during emergency situations when water had to be released from Pong Dam, apart from BBMB teams, the local administration had to visit villages and alert residents through loudspeakers, along with the use of 6 public address systems. This process took time to reach people and posed risks of untoward incidents. However, with the new warning system, alerts will now be delivered instantly to the public.
He added that BBMB remains committed to serving the people and has implemented this project in the public interest.
Chief Engineer Rakesh Gupta informed that these 6 early warning system centres have been established over a stretch of approximately 50 kilometers, from the 52-gate barrage to Mirthal. These systems have been installed at locations including Pekhan, Sansarpur Terrace, right side of Shah Barrage, Riali (Fatehpur), Bela Sariyaana (Mukerian), Peral (Indora), and near Arni University, Indora.
He further stated that these systems have been strategically installed near populated areas. Whenever water is to be released from the dam, alerts will be issued in advance through these systems, enabling residents to move away from the riverbed and avoid danger.
Junior Engineers Jaswinder Singh and Manish Sharma were also present on the occasion.
