Bathinda, September 7, 2026:- Under the directions of Civil Surgeon Bathinda Dr. Tapinderjot, the Health Department Bathinda is conducting various activities at different health centres and in urban and rural areas of the district during National Nutrition Awareness Week to create awareness among people regarding nutrition. As part of this initiative, pregnant women were made aware of National Nutrition Awareness Week at the Mother and Child Hospital. Giving information in this regard, Civil Surgeon Dr. Tapinderjot said that the main objective of this campaign is to create awareness among people about a balanced diet, proper nutrition, hygiene and a healthy lifestyle.
He said that it is essential to include all the necessary nutrients in the daily diet to remain healthy. Green vegetables, seasonal fruits, pulses, cereals, milk and milk products should be included in the diet in appropriate quantities. People were also appealed to avoid food containing excessive salt, sugar and oil. A balanced and nutritious diet is especially important for children, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers and the elderly. For the physical and mental development of children, they should be provided nutritious food according to their age, along with developing the habits of cleanliness and handwashing.
During this programme, Counsellor Charanpal Kaur also provided information regarding identification of malnutrition, prevention of anaemia, importance of mother's milk, complementary food for children, personal hygiene and safe drinking water. She told the pregnant women to share correct information regarding nutrition with their families and society and to provide children with nutritious food instead of junk food. Good nutrition is the foundation of a healthy society, and the participation of the general public, along with government departments, is also very important to eliminate malnutrition. She said that nutrition awareness should not be limited to just one week but should be made a part of daily life.
