Hoshiarpur: On the instructions of Civil Surgeon Hoshiarpur, Dr. Mandeep Kamal, a special awareness and health check-up camp was organized at the Civil Hospital, Hoshiarpur, to mark the completion of 10 years of the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA). In addition to this, the day was specially observed across all PHCs, CHCs, sub-divisional hospitals, and Aam Aadmi Clinics in the district, where pregnant women were made aware of the free health services available under the scheme.
The camp at Civil Hospital, Hoshiarpur, was held under the leadership of SMO In-charge Dr. Navjot Singh and SMO Dr. Neha Pal, with District Family Welfare Officer Dr. Ranjit Singh attending as a special guest.
On this occasion, Dr. Ranjit Singh stated that the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan is a crucial initiative of the Central Government to ensure safe pregnancy and safe childbirth for pregnant women. He noted that on the 9th of every month, expert doctors provide free check-ups and counseling to pregnant women at government health institutions.
Dr. Neha Pal appealed to pregnant women to undergo regular check-ups during pregnancy and avail all free services available at government health facilities. She explained that timely check-ups allow for the identification of high-risk pregnancies, thereby ensuring the health of both the mother and the child.
Gynecologist Dr. Parwaz addressed the pregnant women, informing them that under this Abhiyan, services such as free ANC check-ups, blood pressure monitoring, hemoglobin tests, TT vaccinations, ultrasound counseling, and the provision of iron-folic acid, calcium, and other necessary medicines are provided. She stressed the importance of at least four ANC check-ups during pregnancy, a balanced diet, and the regular intake of iron-folic acid and calcium tablets. She stated that regular medical examinations help in managing complications during pregnancy in a timely manner.
District Mass Media Officer, Mr. Tarsem Lal, said that the Health Department is continuously conducting awareness activities to ensure the benefits of this scheme reach the maximum number of pregnant women.
During the camp, free medical examinations for pregnant women were conducted, and they were provided with information regarding safe motherhood. High-risk pregnancies were identified, and special counseling and referral services were provided as needed. The stage was efficiently managed by Deputy Mass Media Officer Ravinder Jassal.
The event was attended by District Mass Media Officer Mrs. Ramandeep Kaur, Block Extension Educator Rohit Sharma, Dr. Taranpreet (Facility Manager), ICN Harpreet Kaur, and the medical and paramedical staff of Civil Hospital, Hoshiarpur.
