Sangrur, June 26:- In order to make the “War on Drugs” campaign being run by the Punjab Government to eradicate drugs more effective, Cabinet Minister Mr. Aman Arora today held an important review meeting with the officers of various departments at the conference hall of the District Administrative Complex. During the meeting, he reviewed in detail the efforts being made to eradicate drugs in the district and directed the officers to work more diligently.
The Cabinet Minister said that this war against drugs is a war to save the future of the society and no negligence will be tolerated in it. He directed to keep strict vigil on all the interstate checkpoints of the district and to increase the number of checkpoints as per the requirement so that the movement of drugs can be effectively curbed.
Mr. Aman Arora also said that it should be ensured that maximum CCTV cameras are installed in the drug-affected hotspot areas of the district so that suspicious activities can be monitored and police action can be further strengthened.
He instructed the officials of the health department to increase the capacity of admitting patients in the drug de-addiction centers so that every person coming for treatment can get timely and good health facilities. Along with this, it should also be ensured to set up help desks in the drug de-addiction centers so that the family members who take the patients there do not face any kind of problem. He said that it is the priority of the government to reconnect drug addicts with the mainstream of society.
The Cabinet Minister also directed the Employment Department and other concerned institutions to provide maximum employment opportunities to the people who have given up drugs, so that they can start a new life and become self-reliant.
He said that the Punjab government is committed to the collective eradication of drugs and the participation of the people in this campaign is also very important. On this occasion, Deputy Commissioner Poonamdeep Kaur, District Police Chief Dr. Ravjot Grewal along with a large number of officers of various departments and office bearers of the committees formed against drugs were also present.
