Patiala 03 November- Issuing an advisory to prevent health problems caused by smoke spreading in the district for the last few days, Medical Superintendent cum Civil Surgeon Patiala Dr. Sanjay Kamra said that due to the deterioration of the air quality index for the last few days, children and the elderly, especially those who are already suffering from asthma or respiratory diseases, are suffering from these diseases. The severity of the symptoms of these diseases is increasing in them and the number of patients in the hospital has increased.
Apart from this, under this program, emergency services of respiratory patients are being monitored at Rajindra Hospital. He said that generally, symptoms of eye irritation, shortness of breath, fatigue and irritability are coming out due to air pollution. He appealed to the farmer brothers to refrain from burning stubble considering the problems of respiratory patients.
District Epidemiologist cum Nodal Officer National Program for Climate Change and Human Health Dr. Sumit Singh, while giving information to prevent the ill effects of smoke, said that in view of the poor level of air quality, walking, cycling and running in the open should be avoided. While going out, a mask should be worn on the face, water should be sprayed to prevent dust and dirt from flying.
Respiratory and asthma patients should definitely keep their medicines and inhalers with them. To reduce traffic problems, large vehicles and unnecessary traffic should be reduced. Public transport should be used instead of own means as much as possible. Preference should be given to using wet mops instead of brooms in homes. Incense sticks, leaves and garbage should not be burned.
Grass and leaves etc. collected in parks etc. should be crushed instead of burning. Children, elderly and pregnant women should be prevented from going to polluted areas.
