Sangrur, July 24:- Under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, the state government is continuously carrying out development works to further strengthen agriculture, conserve groundwater and ensure smooth and uninterrupted access of canal water to the farmers. In this regard, the Water Resources Department, Punjab, fulfilling the long-standing demand of the farmers of Sangrur constituency, formally inaugurated the minor after renovation under the 'Rehabilitation of New Changal Minor of Sheron Rajwaha (Burji 0 to 11680)' project at a cost of Rs. 120 lakhs.
This project was inaugurated by Punjab Water Resources Minister Mr. Barinder Kumar Goyal and Sangrur MLA Mrs. Narinder Kaur Bharaj. On this occasion, he said that under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab government is working on a large scale to strengthen and modernize the canal irrigation system so that water reaches every field on time and a sustainable solution to every problem related to irrigation of farmers can be ensured.
He said that the renovation of this 03.46 km long minor will directly benefit the farmers of villages Changal, Khilriya, Liddar and Badrukh. This project will lead to a historic increase in the area coming under canal irrigation. Earlier, where only 587 acres of land was getting canal water facility, now this area will increase to 1920 acres. In this way, 1333 acres of additional cultivable land will come under the ambit of canal irrigation. This project will ensure uninterrupted supply of canal water till the tail, which will bring huge economic benefits to the farmers and will also increase agricultural production.
Cabinet Minister Mr. Barinder Kumar Goyal and MLA Mrs. Narinder Kaur Bharaj said that the goal of the Punjab government is to promote maximum use of canal water and stop the declining level of groundwater.
The renovation of this minor will reduce water wastage, reduce the dependence of farmers on tubewells, save electricity and reduce the expenditure on irrigation. This will also strengthen the government's objectives of increasing farmers' income and promoting sustainable agriculture.
He said that the Punjab government is committed to strengthening the irrigation system in every part of the state and in the future too, such development projects will be completed on priority basis, so that all the basic facilities required for agriculture can be made available to the farmers on time.
On this occasion, Buta Changal, Harjinder Singh Sarpanch Khilrian, Iqbal Singh Changal, along with officials from various departments, dignitaries and a large number of people from different villages were present.
