Haroli/Una, May 31 (Rajveer Chopra):- Fakir Chand, a 75-year-old resident of Ward No. 6, is currently living under extremely difficult circumstances. At this advanced stage of life, he is shouldering the responsibility of caring for his critically ill wife and three granddaughters. Plagued by financial hardship and health issues, his family is leading a life of constant struggle.
Fakir Chand shared that his wife, Swarni, has been suffering from a severe illness for approximately 13 years and remains bedridden—often in a semi-conscious state—for most of the time. In addition to caring for her, the burden of managing all other household responsibilities also rests solely upon him. He further explained that his daughter passed away about 13 years ago, following which the responsibility for the upbringing and education of his three granddaughters also fell upon his shoulders.
He mentioned that his eldest granddaughter has studied up to the 9th grade, while another granddaughter has passed the 12th grade, and the third is currently studying in the 12th grade. The family has no sons, and household expenses depend entirely on the limited income generated from farming—an amount that is insufficient to meet the family's basic needs. He noted that his family falls under the **BPL (Below Poverty Line) category** and that he possesses a valid BPL card.
Fakir Chand revealed that in 2022, he had received some government assistance for house construction; however, the concrete ceiling (slab) of one of the rooms in his home has now become dilapidated and could collapse at any moment, thereby posing a constant threat to the family's safety.
He added that he himself is battling several health issues. He has undergone three surgeries and faces significant difficulty in walking and moving around. Despite these challenges, he continues to strive to fulfill his family responsibilities.
Fakir Chand has appealed to the State Government and the District Administration to provide him with financial assistance. He stated that the family lacks any stable source of income, and that receiving financial assistance would not only ensure the smooth sustenance of the family but also secure the education and future of his granddaughters. He has appealed to the administration to provide assistance on humanitarian grounds.
