New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated the year-long celebrations to mark 150 years of the national song ‘Vande Mataram’. He also released a commemorative postage stamp and coin on the occasion at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium here.
The event will formally kick off the year-long nationwide celebrations that will run from November 7, 2025 to November 7, 2026 and celebrate 150 years of a composition that inspired India’s freedom struggle and continues to instill a sense of national pride and unity.
The song was written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee on the occasion of Akshaya Navami on November 7 in 1875. The song was first published in the literary magazine “Bangadarshan” as part of Chatterjee’s novel “Anandamath”.
