Zirakpur, September 24: MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa held an important meeting with contractors belonging to all three municipal councils in the presence of executive officers of Zirakpur, Derabassi and Lalru municipal councils at the meeting hall of Zirakpur Municipal Council on Wednesday. Officials of the electricity department of Zirakpur sub-division were also present in the meeting.
The meeting was held to review the tenders and works done by the officers and contractors of the engineering branch during the past years after the formation of the Aam Aadmi Party government. In this meeting, MLA Randhawa took stock of the works of each contractor from the concerned officials, so that the proper utilization of the money received by the people as taxes and transparency and accountability in the functioning of the municipal council could be ensured.
The meeting was attended by the Executive Officers of all the three Municipal Councils as well as the Engineering Branch officers and contractors. MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa stressed on the importance of reviewing the contracts and works executed by the Engineering Branch officers and contractors to ensure that the taxpayers’ funds are being utilized efficiently and effectively. He also stressed on the need to complete the projects on time and adhere to quality standards.
During the meeting, MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa also discussed the progress of the ongoing projects of each contractor with the concerned officers and directed the officers to complete the pending projects at the earliest. The MLA appealed to the contractors to maintain the quality of the work and adhere to the timelines to avoid any delay and cost escalation, while also refraining from bidding at a loss to win the contracts.
Giving information, MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa said that his meeting with the executive officers, officials and contractors of Zirakpur, Derabassi and Lalru Municipal Councils is a step towards promoting transparency and accountability in the functioning of the Municipal Council. Their efforts to review the contracts and works done in the past years will ensure that the taxpayers' money is used efficiently and effectively.
MLA Randhawa expressed his displeasure during the meeting over the pending works of the contracts taken by the contractors in 2024-25 and advised the officials to hold a review meeting again. This meeting highlights the commitment towards the development and progress of the three cities of Derabassi constituency. On this occasion, Municipal Council President Derabassi Mrs. Ashu Naresh Upneja, Municipal Council President Lalru Mr. Satish Rana were present.
