The Parents' Association says that every year parents of students buy books worth crores of rupees, but many private schools in the city have "huge commission arrangements" with three-four book sellers and are asked to buy books only from these sellers. Last year, the government had given instructions to schools not to force parents to buy books or uniforms from a shop, but schools in Patiala did not follow these instructions. Parents' anger towards these schools is also increasing. A complaint has also been lodged with the district education department against three private schools of the underprivileged. Deputy Education Officer of the district Ravinderpal Sharma says that if the parents have any complaints related to the schools, they can file a complaint with the Education Department, which will be acted upon.
