Police conducts 'Caso' operation in drug-affected areas of the district.

Nawanshahr- Senior Superintendent of Police, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar Dr. Mehtab Singh informed that the District Police is fully committed to eradicate drugs under the 'War on Drugs' mission of the Punjab Government and strict action is being taken against drug smugglers under this mission.

He said that under this campaign, today, as per the guidelines of the Director General of Police, Punjab, a 'Cordon and Search Operation' (Caso) was conducted in the drug-affected areas of the district under the supervision of ADGP Traffic Punjab AS Rai and DIG Ludhiana Range Jagdale Nilambari Vijay. He said that in this search operation, police parties of 107 police personnel including 1 SP, 6 DSPs were formed and searches were conducted in the drug hot spot villages/wards of the district and special checks were carried out on the persons involved in the drug smuggling business.
He said that during this search operation, 223 suspects were checked and 7 cases were registered and 7 accused were arrested and 110 narcotic pills, 21 grams of heroin and 12 bottles of liquor were recovered. He said that the main objective of this operation was to control drug smugglers, maintain pressure on drug peddlers, monitor their current activities, break the drug supply chain, identify and rehabilitate drug users and instill confidence in the general public towards the police. He appealed to the people to cooperate with the police in this ongoing campaign against drugs. He said that during the month of March, the district police has registered 123 cases and arrested 141 drug smugglers.
