Una, July 3 - The district administration will now honor those who help people injured in road accidents in Una district with a cash incentive of Rs 25,000. This information was given by Deputy Commissioner Una Jatin Lal in the District Road Safety Committee meeting held on Thursday. He said that on the recommendation of the concerned SDM, this prize money will be provided immediately through the District Red Cross Society. The objective of this initiative is to motivate people to help the injured in road accidents, so that timely treatment can be ensured and as many lives as possible can be saved.
In the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner called for making out-of-the-box efforts apart from traditional methods to increase public awareness about road safety and following traffic rules. He directed all the Sub-Divisional Magistrates to organize regular meetings regarding road safety in their respective areas and ensure corrective steps. He said that every SDM should prepare a comprehensive 'Road Safety Plan' for his area. In that plan, it should be clearly mentioned what is the current situation there, what are the main problems, what improvements have been made so far, and what further measures can be taken to improve the situation. Apart from this, he also directed to conduct periodic inspection of school buses and organize awareness camps about road safety in schools.
The Deputy Commissioner asked to conduct a comprehensive survey and submit the necessary estimate for installing signage, speed breakers, high quality CCTV cameras and traffic lights at the intersections at prominent places in every subdivision, so that the proposed works can be implemented in a timely manner. He also directed that the dilapidated trees standing in dangerous condition on the sides of the State Highway and National Highway should be identified and removed as per the need, so that public safety can be ensured.
The Deputy Commissioner informed that 38 places have been identified for installing CCTV cameras on the NH from Mehatpur to Una. He also informed that the repair work of Rampur bridge is in progress. He directed to install traffic lights soon at Una-Hoshiarpur-Santoshgarh Chowk near the DC office. Similarly, he asked to arrange for signage boards and traffic lights at appropriate height at Baduhi Chowk in Amb. The Deputy Commissioner asked to complete all the procedural formalities soon for installing electronic display units showing the speed of vehicles on Una-Amb highway and installing CCTV cameras at other important places including Gagret and Daulatpur market. He also directed to explore the possibilities of installing traffic lights for smooth traffic at Bangana and Tahliwal Chowks.
