Hoshiarpur- BSP state president Dr Avtar Singh Karimpuri strongly condemned the police action against Dalit labourers in the case of 930 acres of land in Sohian village of Sangrur district. He called the Punjab government an oppressive government and called it a feudalistic action taken in connivance with the police machinery.
He said that for thousands of years the only fault of the landless people of this village was that they wanted the ownership rights of this 930 acres of land and 2000 policemen came and tortured them, arrested them.
He not only strongly condemned the oppression of the government, but also said that BSP will not tolerate it. He said that 'the land which is government land is ours', this is BSP's movement and in whichever village including Sohian, this movement is being run by the people, BSP is with them in every aspect. He also demanded the immediate release of innocent people arrested by the government.
He demanded immediate distribution of government land among the landless people and said that the government should move forward by leaving its egalitarian and oppressive mindset. BSP will not tolerate this government oppression silently. If necessary, intervention can be done by reaching Sangrur. He said that the government is moving towards police system by killing democracy, against which the justice loving people of Punjab will have to stand up.
He advocated the government to give up its feudal and oppressive policy and distribute land to poor landless people. He said that Dalits, who are 35 to 40 percent of the total population, hold six and a half percent of the total land of Punjab and the same is the situation of OBCs.
He appealed to the people of Punjab to join BSP and said that just as the former Chief Minister of the country's largest state Uttar Pradesh, sister Kumari Mayawati, had given lakhs of acres of land to the landless for free during her four governments, in the same way, government lands will be distributed to the landless when BSP government is formed in Punjab.
He said that this happened when the people there became aware and united and formed their government under the leadership of that sister. On the lines of Uttar Pradesh, the people of Punjab should also form their government and find a permanent solution to their problems.
